Every Christian is on a journey regarding their relationship with money and possessions. We are bombarded on a daily basis by messages that relate to money and materialism. These messages tell us that money will make us happy, that the money we have is ours alone to do with what we want. But the Bible tells us something different. That everything – yes, everything – is a gift from God. The Bible tells us that we are called to be good managers not owners of the resources entrusted to us. As Jesus passed by, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post, he said to him, ‘Follow me’” (Matthew 9:9). We can imagine that Matthew was not well thought of by his fellow Jews. He was a tax collector after all. That Jesus would even talk to him would be strange enough, but that he would say “Follow me” to such a person certainly raised a lot of eyebrows in Jerusalem, especially among the Pharisees who were within hearing range of this moment. “Follow me.” This seems such a simple suggestion, but knowing the times and the feelings that the Jews had about tax collectors and the reputations of many of the tax collectors, this statement takes on a profoundly important meaning for us personally. Light Brings Truth It is not truth alone, but knowledge of the truth that will set you free John 8:32. Truth is not what I say it is, and not what you think it is. Truth is what God’s word says it is. Truth is not something but Someone. Truth must be known through the word of God. God’s word is a torch of divine revelation. Its guiding light has led legions on earth to the throne of God. Jesus used it to silence Satan, saying, “It is written…” God knows the church needs revelation. God has spelled out his will for you. It’s in His word. Our generation stumbles in the dark, saying, “What is truth”? We are the generation that is “ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth” I Timothy 3:7. Grace yes: it is all about grace.

“If, by the transgression of one person, death came to reign through that one, how much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of this gift of justification come to reign in life through the one person Jesus Christ. In conclusion, just as through one transgression condemnation came upon all, so through one righteous act acquittal and life came to all” (Romans 5:17-18). This is our faith in a nutshell. Through Adam’s sin, death came to reign over us. But through the unconditional and unquenchable love of God shown to us in the Incarnation of Jesus Christ, and through his one righteous act on the cross, our sins have been forgiven (acquittal) and the life that was lost to us in Adam’s sin has been given back to all of us even more abundantly. When He Said “It is Finished,” He was Talking about You

John 19:30 CSB I had read this Scripture in John 19 so many times – the last words Jesus spoke on the day He was crucified. I knew that in those final moments as He was there on the cross, He simply said, “ It is finished ,” closed His eyes, and died. There’s such gravity in that moment. Imagining the Son of God, our Savior, with His battered and broken body nailed to a cross, stirs up a sense of both sadness and shame. He endured such terrible things that even thinking about them leads me to close my eyes in sorrow.
